George Dean's Men's Store has a great history and we are so glad that you are here.
George Dean's is located in beautiful downtown Athens ~ only a short distance from the University of Georgia.
For over many years, George Dean's has been known for the place to shop for fine Men's clothing in Athens, Georgia - with a long history of fine customer service and southern hospitality.
Mr. George Walker Dean was the owner of George Dean's Men's Store on East Clayton Street in Athens for over 40 years. Mr. Dean had worked as a Men's clothing retailer for 68 years, starting as a salesman with Dick Ferguson's Clothing Store. He opened George Dean's in 1966 when he bought the long-standing John Q. West apparel shop and changed the name.
Mr. Dean continued to pass along his great love of people of fairness in business to his son, Wayne Dean who worked along side Mr. Dean for many years.
On October 2, 2008, George Walker Dean, at age 88 left this earth and not only does his family miss his presence but the people of Athens miss him and his presence in the store.
"Mr. Dean was a fixture in downtown in the sense that I think many people considered him to be the 'Dean of Clayton Street,' " Menser said.
"My father believed in treating everybody fair and selling a good product at a fair price," Wayne Dean said. "He said if you do that, everybody will come back and do business with you, and he was right."
Currently George Dean's has 7 employees and continues to strive to do as Mr. George Walker Dean has taught them.
Please feel free to look around, and if you need help, give us a call, we look forward to hearing from you and.. GO DAWGS!
